Early THORSHAVN Circle Cancels - Bro III No bridge lines, no inner circle. Following the withdrawl of the first Thorshavn bridge cancel there were four different circle cancels used at the Thorshavn post office during the period 1917-45. |

THORSHAVN dated 23.01.1943 Franked with a 10 øre, chocolate-brown, Wavy-lines stamp (SG 271b). Datestamp No. 01.07 Type Bro IIIc H N JACOBSENS cover sent at the local letter rate of 10 øre which applied for post within the Islands from 01.03.1921 until 30.6.1946. The limit for Local letters during the period 01.07.1920 to 31.03.1957 was a radius of one Danish mil (around 7.5km) therefore most mail during this period was sent at the Inland rate. |

This datestamp was only normally used on a Sunday. Here, however, we have a WEEKDAY usage, the letter being sent during the month long absence of a regular Thorshavn postmark between 15 March to 17th April 1933. |
